Associate in Applied Science, Veterinary Technology (AAS VT)

Turn your passion for animals and interest in their health and wellness into a career as a veterinary technician. Whether your goal is to assist a veterinarian in a clinic, at a lab or with research, an associate degree in veterinary technology from Medaille College’s School of Adult and Graduate Education (SAGE) provides the necessary credentials for you to take the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) required for professional licensure as a Veterinary Technician in New York State.

Developed from the curriculum of Medaille’s longstanding and accredited program at its Buffalo campus, the Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology is a 70-credit program formatted for the working adult. Classes occur one night a week, and are supplemented with online and clinical work around your schedule, so you can complete your degree without giving up your job.

Over the course of the program, you’ll study the core principles and theory of veterinary science and blend it with hands-on laboratory and clinical experience. Classes are created around the core responsibilities of a veterinary technician, and include:

  • Laboratory animal science
  • Small animal diseases and nutrition
  • Farm animal restraint
  • Veterinary practice management

I'm grateful for the education I've received.

The instructors were knowledgeable and welcomed class discussions, with
respect for each student's contribution. I've learned how to be a more
effective leader. My capstone class gave insight on how to combine all
the education learned to operate a business. That's when I realized how
much I had sharpened my knowledge.
