The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released their weekly awards and Medaille found one of their own on the list. Erin Kelly became the third player in program history to garner this prestigious honor.
During the past week he averaged 3.44 kills per set and recorded a (.487) hitting percentage.
Those statistics helped Medaille to a 4-1 week that included a thrilling five-set win over defending national champion and fifth ranked Nazareth College in the UVC opener for both schools.
In addition, he hit .450 with 12 kills, three digs, and two blocks in that victory. Kelly posted a week-high 19 kills without an error, helping the Mavericks’ win over Stevenson.
He hit .737 against Mt. St. Joseph with 14 kills and no errors in 19 total attacks. He had a three game stretch where he committed zero errors while playing at a high level.
This national distinction puts him in rarified air as he follows Ryan Murdie who garnered the honor in 2010 and teammate Nick Johnson who earned the distinction during the 2011 season.
In addition to the AVCA honor he was also selected as the AMCC, UVC, and Medaille Player of the Week.
Currently the 10th ranked Mavs sit at 7-2. More coverage at www.medaillesports.com.
The instructors were knowledgeable and welcomed class discussions, with
respect for each student's contribution. I've learned how to be a more
effective leader. My capstone class gave insight on how to combine all
the education learned to operate a business. That's when I realized how
much I had sharpened my knowledge.
