Members of Medaille College’s class of 2012 squeezed into the tiny confines of the Medaille Bug on Wednesday, May 2. With 21 students making it inside the vehicle, the seniors broke last year’s record of 19.
A team of motivated, and flexible, senior students have been rigorously practicing to fit inside the Medaille Bug, Western New York’s best – and only – anthropomorphic vehicle.
With the Bug’s eager agreement, these volunteers stayed as faithful as possible to the rules set out by the Guinness World Record authority. Other rules for this type of event: no seats can be removed; all windows and doors must be closed; there is a ten-minute time limit to “stuff” the vehicle; and, the car must start on completion of the cram.
The current, official Guinness World Record for “stuffing” people into a new VW Beetle occurred on April 29, 2000 in Kremser, Austria – 25 people. An unofficial record was set by Penn State Abington in 2001 with 27 students. And of course, Medaille students in the class of 2011 set their own record of 19 last April.

About the Medaille Bug
The Medaille Bug has travelled the highways and byways of Western New York since 2010. Weighing in at 2,712 pounds of joy, the Bug spreads Medaille’s mind-changing messages in a uniquely moving way.
The instructors were knowledgeable and welcomed class discussions, with
respect for each student's contribution. I've learned how to be a more
effective leader. My capstone class gave insight on how to combine all
the education learned to operate a business. That's when I realized how
much I had sharpened my knowledge.
