"Wound"In November 2012, Mark Lavatelli, professor of humanities at Medaille College, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Buffalo Society of Artists (BSA). Founded in 1891, the BSA is one of the oldest art societies in the United States.

In December, he was elected Vice President and is in charge of Buffalo Society of Artists' exhibitions. These include the annual spring exhibition, which will be held March 29 - April 27 at the Karpeles Manuscript Museum on Porter Avenue in Buffalo; a member's exhibition, which will take place in August at the Carnegie Art Center in North Tonawanda; and, the annual catalogue exhibition which will be held at the Kenan Center in Lockport in October.

Also, Lavatelli received the Best in Show award at Buffalo's Big Orbit Gallery's 22nd Annual Member's Exhibition, for his piece entitled "Wound" (shown at left). The exhibition opened on Saturday, February 2 and continues through March 9, 2013. As the Big Orbit website explains: "The exhibition's Best in Show award winner, selected each year by an outside juror, receives a solo exhibition in the following exhibition season and we have never been anything but genuinely thrilled with the resulting exhibits."

I'm grateful for the education I've received.

The instructors were knowledgeable and welcomed class discussions, with
respect for each student's contribution. I've learned how to be a more
effective leader. My capstone class gave insight on how to combine all
the education learned to operate a business. That's when I realized how
much I had sharpened my knowledge.
