#MavsSucceed Online: Junior Mohamed Maalim on How Say Yes Staff Members Motivate and Inspire StudentsPosted by Medaille College Office of Communications
Junior Mohamed Maalim is an international studies major and a Say Yes to Education student at Medaille College. Here, he speaks about the bonds Say Yes staff members form with students, and he explains how those bonds serve to motivate and inspire him and other students, both in school and in life.
Say Yes Medaille is one of the best reasons why I enjoy waking up in the morning and going to school, whether it is on campus or online. The Say Yes staff members have been plenty of help to me and to other students. They make sure that we get through our education, give us any resources we might need, and help us with our classes and assignments. But, I don’t think that is the reason why I and so many students have formed such a close bond with our Say Yes team at Medaille. The bond between us feels like one with a good friend who is always there to help us through anything.
I mentioned they help us navigate our education, classes and homework, but that’s just their job. What makes Say Yes special is that the staff goes above and beyond to help us with our problems. They are there if we need to vent or if we just need someone to come and listen to us. Ms. Rachel, Ms. Michelle and Ms. Brianne are what makes us students so excited to come to the Say Yes office. They are not just people who are there to do their jobs. They form a really strong bond with myself and other students. They are the main reason why I enjoy being a Say Yes student. They always motivate me and see the best in me. That makes me want to do well in my classes so I can come and tell them how good I am doing in school. I am a shy person who doesn’t even talk to my professors much, but with them, I am myself. I can joke around with them and have the comfort of telling them anything. In school, any teacher can give a student the answer to a problem in a book, but it takes a special teacher/mentor who has a friendship with their students to help them not just with school but even with life problems. Say Yes is definitely special. That's why I enjoy being a Say Yes student.
As the world faces unprecedented, challenging times, the Medaille community has come together in shared commitment to help our students successfully complete their education. Our students, faculty and staff have been helping each other navigate this new territory of remote teaching, learning and working, and many have shared anecdotes of encouragement and support.
